We’ve all had the invite to the dreaded 3 hour workshop or all day meeting to discuss strategy, the way forward, how to address the ‘big issues’. How often are they successful? Do people start muttering about the cost of having all those people in the room for half a day?
This is where professional facilitation can help you. An external facilitator is neutral, focused on outputs and outcomes from the session and can manage some of the difficult characters we would all recognise within a longer meeting. There are also experts in reading the dynamic of a group and, if appropriate, bringing issues to the surface for discussion.
A facilitator will want to spend some time with you prior to the session to understand what your desired outputs and outcomes are. Depending on the number of individuals and the subject they may also want to spend some time with the participants.
Usually they will produce the output from the session for you, or they can work alongside your staff to develop the output further if required.
